Meditating is another type of exercise that requires no equipment. All you need is yourself and a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. When you sit down to meditate, close your eyes and try to clear your mind of everything else going on around you. Focus only on your breath and let go of any thoughts coming into your head.

When you’re done meditating, simply stand up and stretch. If you’re tired after pondering, lay back down and repeat the process. Try to meditate every day so you’ll reap the rewards.

While most people associate meditation with Eastern religions, meditation is practiced by people from all walks of life. If you’re interested in meditating, here’s what you should know.

First, you must decide if you want to practice mindfulness or transcendental meditation. Both are forms of meditation, but each has its own unique characteristics.

Mindfulness meditation focuses on being aware of thoughts and feelings throughout the day. Transcendental meditation uses mantra repetition to achieve a state of deep relaxation.

Both methods require a quiet environment where distractions are minimal. To begin, sit comfortably in a chair or lie on a bed. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Focus on your breath and notice any sensations associated with breathing.

Next, repeat a word or phrase silently to yourself. Some say “Om” because it represents the sound of the universe. Others may choose a simple word like “one.” Whatever you choose, keep repeating the same term until you feel relaxed.

Once you’ve reached a calm state, try focusing on your surroundings. Notice colors, shapes, textures, and patterns. Feel the air around you. Listen to the sounds around you. When ready, slowly open your eyes and return to normal activities.

You might enjoy meditation so much that you’d like to continue practicing it daily. That’s perfectly fine. Just remember to start small. Try only five minutes a day for the first week. Then gradually build up to 20 minutes per day.

As long as you’re consistent, you’ll see results in no time.
